The impact of the radio

The radio owes its success to several important figures such as Henirich Hertz, Nikola Tesla, Ernest Alexanderson, Reginal Fessenden, Edwin Armstron, Guglielmo Marconi and Lee DeFroest. The history of radio can be traced back to the mid 1800s. It involved theory related to electricity and magnetism. Telegraph was the first available technology developed from this discovery although it required wire cables. While the telegraph was mainly limited to transmitting Morse code and printed messages, the invention of the telephone made distant audio communication possible. Despite the fact that the telephone was mostly used for private conversations, there was some experimentation with providing home entertainment. Although the use of radio in the early 1920's were primarily for military purposes, the public soon was introduced to it as it revolutionized entertainment with the introduction of mega networks such as the British Broadcasting Company (BBC).

Today, radio takes many forms, including wireless networks and mobile communications of all types, as well as radio broadcasting. Before the advent of television, commercial radio broadcasts included news and music, but dramas, comedies, variety shows, and many other forms of entertainment. Radio was unique among methods of dramatic presentation in that it used only sound and yet still delivered an immersive method of entertainment.
